For those of you who follow me on Instagram, you might’ve seen that I had the absolute joy of meeting Stephen Fry this week. Now, being in a room with the great and the good is always humbling… but being in a room with Stephen Fry? That’s another level.

He was every bit as charismatic, generous, and razor-sharp as you’d imagine. Without a single prompt or note, he spoke to our Sixth Form pupils for 35 minutes about his personal experiences with mental health — all under the umbrella of Uppingham’s relatively new wellbeing initiative. It was moving, honest, and utterly inspiring.

The moment I found out he was coming, I legged it home to grab a print of Fircroft, his old boarding house, to give him as a gift. (Yes, I signed it… and yes, I might have left my contact details on the back. You know, just in case he wants to commission a drawing of his favourite building… or invite me to the BAFTAs. Either works.)

He told me he’s going to frame it in his house. … amazing.
